to scatter, AS. sprengan, properly, to make to spring,
causative of springan to spring; akin to D. sprenkelen to
sprinkle, G. sprengen. See {Spring}, v. i., and cf.
{Sprent}.]
1. To scatter in small drops or particles, as water, seed,
etc.
